Hi Everyone

Dusted off my binoculars and got out for a couple of hours this morning.  Hoping to make it a more regular occurance !!

08:30 - 10:30

Holden Wood Reservoir

Long Tailed Tit - I only actually saw 1 bird !!
House Martin
Swallow
Grey Heron x2
Cormorant x5
Lapwing x3
Moorhen x 2
Kestrel male hunting and dropping onto an unfortunate meal

Clough Head Feeders

Female Bullfinch
Goldfinch
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Coal Tit
Robin

Jamestone Quarry

Female Tufted Duck with 4 young constantly diving.
Stock Dove
Oystercatcher x2

I may have had a female Redstart in some bushes halfway round Holden Wood, but can't be sure, so not recording it.  I've never seen them in Rossendale and not sure if they are about.  Got a decent look at it, and it seemed to fit with the descriptions in the books.  Heard it calling quite a bit too, and it just didn't seem to fit anything else like juv. Robin.

Hopefully bump into some fellow Rossendalians on my travels !!

Hi Matthew,

Every chance of it being a restart at this time of year. They do breed in Rossendale (but rare now), and over our boundary to the north and east and they will be on the move south Now. Usually identifyable with the bright red tail.

Hi Matthew/Craig,

Redstart recorded in same area 18 August last year, creatures of habitat, be good to see you around Matthew.

Regards Brian.
