This afternoon pr gadwall still present. Also 3 goosanders, 2 teal, c10 mallard, 1 coot, 1 great-crested grebe and a couple of cormorants. Only 2 lapwings (plus the feathers from one predated). No other waders and virtually no passerines around the res.

On the way there slightly unusual sightings were one lapwing nr K steel (hardly ever seen around here nowadays), about 20 herring gulls on the beds at EBSW (usually just flying over) and c10 siskins Helmshore.

I was up at Grane today and can add the following

  • cormorant - 6 at Holden Wood & 3 at Ogden
  • Canada goose - min 85 (83 at Ogden)
  • barnacle goose - 1 with the Canadas at Ogden
  • mallard - 3prs were on Ogden, c20 were on Holden Wood @ 3pm
  • teal - 6 on Holden Wood in the afternoon & 21 were on Ogden 
  • goosander - 2prs were on Holden Wood in the morning & another pair flew down the valley
  • goldeneye - 6 on Ogden flew to Calf Hey
  • moorhen - 2 at Holden Wood
  • buzzard - 1
  • kestrel - 1 at Heap Clough & 1 at Calf Hey
  • oystercatcher - 2 at Ogden
  • snipe - 5 at Holden Wood, 7 at Ogden & 1 at Heap Clough (sadly couldn't find Dave's jack snipe from yesterday)
  • great black backed gull - juvenile bird at Holden Wood in the morning
  • herring gull - c60 passed over Haslingden/ Grane Road heading south between 10:20 & 10:30
  • black-headed gull - c60 at Holden Wood & Ogden
  • green woodpecker - 1 flew up from the bank at Holden Wood & a yaffling bird at Calf Hey
  • stock dove 4 at Heap Clough
  • meadow pipit - 4 at Holden Wood & 6 at Heap Clough
  • nuthatch - 2 at Calf hey & 1 at Clough Head
  • long tailed tit - 6 at Calf Hey & c10 at Holden Wood on Sarfraz's feeders
  • coal tit - min 12 at Clough Head
  • wren - 1 at Holden Wood

Barnacle Goose on Holden Wood Reservoir. No sign of Gadwall. 10 Teal, 35 Mallard, 68 Canada Goose, 2 Cormorant, Coot, 5 Moorhen.
