Some days you go out birding / walking and you see the same birds species. Then one day you are "rewarded" by finding something rather special. It was my intention to look out for any Spotted Flycatcher in Whitworth, that have been seen in Rossendale, which I could not find! After watching a Buzzard for 10 minutes, only my 4th in Whitworth, I managed to see 2 male Wheatear. A smart Jay then flew past me. Then not far from home a cracking male Redstart flycatching using a barbed wire fench as its perch. It was strange watching the bird with my house in the background. The Redstart is a new bird for Whitworth. So it shows that the more you go out the more chance you have of having a good afternoon`s birding. Other birds:-25 Carrion Crow ,40 Mallard, 1 Tufted Duck, 20 Jackdaw, 5 Magpie, 2 Meadow Pipit, 18 BH Gull, 1 LBB Gull.
