E.B.S.W. 04/04/07 - 18:00 - 20:00 hrs

On the beds - c3 Grey Wagtail, c5 M. Pipit, 2 Reed Bunting, Sparrowhawk overhead, pr Pheasant, c 3 B.H.Gull.
No sign of Shelducks, but seen flying towards Townsendfold before dusk on 02/04/07 so possibly in that area now.

Ravenshore - two nests in topmost branches of trees were attended by Rooks!
A new site.

Chiffchaff singing at the rear of the old beds on far side of river amongst hawthorn scrub. Haven't seen Bullfinchs here this year yet, it used to be a very good site for them.  No sign of any other migrants as yet.

A large raptor circling high over Rawtenstall seen from the above area. Not sure of species (prob. Buzzard) but c10 crows in close attendance. Drifted N. then down to the area below Chapel Hill possibly Reedsholme or Constablelee.

Continual passage of Lesser Black Backed Gulls all evening with birds moving approx. S.E. to N.W. 225 in counted but definatley missed quite a few.

Back at the gates at 19:30 hrs with Jay calling and 42 Jackdaws flying high to S.

Counted Pied Wagtails off over the next 30 mins with a final total of 127 birds moving to the N.W. There was little sign of so many birds being present earlier, we estimated c20 at 18:00 hrs. So if you are counting Wagtails leave it until late!

Bob.
