Watching Whinchat for over one hour flying on and off local posting. Can't as yet establish whether breeding local or whether its on movement. I suspect movement, although the owner of the farm will now keep a look out over the next few days.
By the way its at the same site where the albino wagtail has been and also has bred successful with 2 broods this year, for the interest none of the young showed any throwback to albino.
At the same site the Swallows have been unsuccessful, purely on account of none fulfillment of feed (no insects on account of the diverse weather situations), first eggs, cleared out of nest, then 2nd time a full brood of young birds, tipped out of the nest..... first time ever the farmer has had this situation.
Although lots of local Swallows feeding in the vicinity tonight...
Hi Steve, Yes your right we were at Jacks (Jack Holdens) last night, and it was great to see the Whinchat pop up, but could only find the one, but we will monitor it over the next few days to check whether its a overlooked breeder or a mover, I personally tend to think it will be a early mover. Your ears must have been burning because he did mention you whilst I was there, saying something about you have or had a live camera set up in the nest boxes... really bad situation with the Swallows.. Catch you around Steve, Bryan.
Hi Ian, delayed reply only just got in from unsunny Blackpool. Yes I am still up on the Slate/Laund most days and vismig will start in a couple of weeks or so. Again the Swift situation throughout the North has been a little bleak with lots of birds on the move back well before their time. But as usually the case around here the Swifts and still thick or they were yesterday. Usual departure for our Swifts here is if I remember correctly about the 16th - 20th August, so hopefully we have still got another week. Will try and monitor them.....
