Running alongside the BTO Atlas, this survey aims to produce an atlas for the whole of Lancashire based on the tetrad unit.
Though not finally decided (there is a meeting tomorrow, 22nd Sep) the methodology will probably be similar to that for the last Lancashire Atlas i.e. two 2-hour visits to a tetrad in the breeding-season, and probably the same in winter.
Ideally, all tetrads should have been surveyed by the end of 5 years (4 winters and 4 breeding seasons), but this will not be in addition to the BTO work - instead, timed visits for the Lancashire Atlas will be fed into the BTO Atlas.
I'll post more detail after tomorrows meeting including a list of Rossendale tetrads that we hope to cover during the years of the project.
From the meeting the main thing extra to the BTO fieldwork will be to ensure that as many 'roving records' as possible are made on a tetrad basis, rather than on a 10Km basis, as it is for the BTO. In other words, additional, un-timed, visits to the tetrad being covered.
Here is a list of Rossendale tetrads. Click on the tetrad reference to view a map of it. Later I will post a list indicating those that people have offered to cover.
I've now added the tetrads in SD72 that are in Rossendale.
