Sun Sept 23rd 2007 - Haslingden Laund 0630hrs -0730hrs Wind: SSE 15-20mph Movement: South unless stated otherwise.
Nothing much showing, not suprised, the few birds that did show could not get through because of high wind (head on Southerlies). Did notice on way down going back home that a party of Swallows where going through in the lower valley at perhaps some 6ft from ground. Checked every half half from house (from 0730hrs until 1030hrs) to see if anything was moving through, but not a thing!!
Meadow Pipit: 8 Linnet: 20 (2W) Swallow: 3
Jean et al (Jean Roberts - Caton Moor: Caton Moor 22nd September? 0700-1030 Not as good as at Thornton Moor but pretty good for Caton Moor: Meadow Pipit 1000 (I deliberately stayed until I reached 1000 then had to hurriedly do other things but Mipits were still moving through at a rate of probably 240 per hour) , it was great to see you getting them yesterday and finally getting the West side off, so hopefully it should turn anyday now. I have noticed that the winds are showing quite strong for the early week though thankfully at least on westerlies, unlike the Southerly today and it dont look clever for light winds until about Thursday!! but saying that I would still expect them to go through OK on a 15mph Westerley, I have actually known them peak counts on 15mph westerlies. Hope you get some great counts this week.
