Thr Sept 27th 2007 - Haslingden Laund
0645hrs - 0930hrs
Wind: NW 6mph
Movement: South unless stated otherwise.
Early Redwings (thanks Dave (Dave Barker- vismig) for early phone alert) 3 parties followed immediately after later phone call. Also early Brambling and more Pink Feet. Some cracking stuff, but so early for the Thrushes (3 weeks early) and yet still short of Meadow Pipits...
Meadow Pipit: 57 all SE
Linnet: 57 (12W)
Siskin: 6W (one party)
BHG: 36 one party
Starling: 1
LBBG: 3
Goldfinch: 37 (4W)
Chaffinch: 10
C. Snipe: 1W
Redwing: 160W, 2S (2S @ 0810, 30 @ 0848, 70@ 0850, 60@ 0915.)
Redpoll: 2
Pied Wagtail: 3
Mistle Thrush: 1W
Brambling: 2W
Pink Footed Goose: 150  E - 0845hrs
Lapwing: 5W
Greenfinch: 2W
Its probable the Redwing have been going all morning, because on my return home (which lies below Haslingden Laund) at 1245hrs had the following:
Redwing: 30W
Chaffinch: 2
Grey Wagtail: 2W

Lots of reports of Redwing throughout Country... big numbers already
Cheers,
Bryan.

Hi Jim, Yes I think its took everyone by suprise and it could be something to do with a particular jetstream which has been showing up on the Continent, but too heavy for me to even try and work out.  What I do know is that besides my Redwings.  Mavis over at Darwen has had over 1500 and Dave Barker at Oxenhope has had over 3800 plus many other sightings throughout Country.

I am now in a proper dilemma, because usually the Meadow Pipit movement has finished before the Thrush movement starts and so that I can comfortably move over from Laund (Pipits) to the Grane (Thrushes).  Yet the Pipit move has not even started, well at least round here - so we think!!!  so I am not too sure what to do for best, will probably stick with Laund for a further day and then move into Grane starting at weekend.

Cheers,
Bryan.

Hi Bryan

Any chance that the Pipits have already moved?

Just seems to be large numbers around coastal areas.

Great about the Redwings and other sightings are early so I guess we could be in for a treat this Autumn.
Good luck with the dilemma.
