Wildfowl Count - Grane 13th Jan 08

Holden Wood Res
1 Heron, c25 Black-headed Gulls, 3 Mallard.
Not a complete count due to closure fo footpath (we viewed from top end via footpath from near Duke of Wellington) and appalling weather - high winds and driving rain.

Ogden and Calf Hey - nothing seen.
We noticed that the block of conifers on the south side of Calf Hey res had been harvested.  Is this likely to have an impact on some species?  I understood this to be the breeding site for Siskins in the past.

Hi Jim,

Is there any reason why the footpath has been closed? Have not been to Holden wood for ages - weather being main problem.

Yes, they are doing some bank reinforcement work and I think they have heavy plant moving up and down that area so it will have been closed for safety reasons.
