It seems i have rossendales robin population,i have three feeding stations i feed through the winter, two are near my house, and one is up in the woods,i spent from first light this morning[the snow made the early rise worth it]counting robins, the total was 19 individualls, with the maximum at anyone time being 7,the attraction was definately the food, there was a lot of chasing, and they dominated the area seeing off allcomers, including nuthatch, bullfinch and at one time a jay.
Hi Ina, I make up a mix of seed, peanuts, hearts, and niger, and mix in mealworm , chopped fruit, and broken up fat balls, this seems to attract most things, the robins mainly eat the fruit and mealworm, but they also eat the seeds.
Thanks Brian, I use 'husk free mixes' but they aren't all the same. Nothing seems to touch whole peanuts up here so they start to rot, but they go if I chop them up. Never tried niger but I get a fair few Goldfinches eating sunflower hearts. What I don't see much of are H.Sparrows and Tits. I will give your recipe a try when I get out again and see if the species count goes up. Watch this space.
