Hi David, Must have just missed you this morning, did my ttv 0630/1000,i had three wood warblers singing, two seen around the old lumb mill site, was yours in that area, did not have any last year ? Best regards Brian
Hi Brian, The bird I saw was approx 200 yards past Alderbottom viaduct towards Strongstry and was singing and taking insects. The last ones I saw in that area were 2 on April 30th 1996 and so it is quite some time ago! Three is a good number and hopefully they will attract females and stay to breed if we are lucky. All the best! David.
David/Bob, I have been this evening and heard two individuals singing, with a visual on one,but am wondering how many there are, being a newcomer i dont know which, or where alderbottom viaduct/old stubbins nature reserve are.If i am walking along the cycle track from strongstry to irwell vale,i cross the river and on the left is a steep slope down to where the mill was,a path leads to an old bridge leading to lumb,it is this area i have had the sightings,is this the same area as yours ?
Hi Brian, As you walk down the cycle track from Strongstry towards Lumb the bird I had and believe Bob had was approximately 300 yards down the track. The first bridge you come to over the river walking in this direction towards Lumb is Alderbottom viaduct and I think you have had your birds in the well wooded area over the bridge and to the left of the track towards the river? As mentioned in an earlier message three birds for Strongstry (or other former valley sites) is exceptional as far as I can recall. Regards, David.
