Despite the poor weather conditions,low cloud and mist,had a walk around Whitworth met Kevin Lister and we birded the area,then it started to rain!

Whitworth Quarry
Buzzard (heading south),LBB Gull 2,Little Owl,Swallow 8,Meadow Pipit 40,Wheatear 5, CCrow 6,Goldfinch 4, Linnet 2, Twite 47 (some with various rings).

Cowm Reservoir
Cormorant 2,Grey Heron,Mallard 50, Tufted Duck 10,BH Gull 30,Wood Pigeon 4, Swallow 6, House Martin 6, Mistle Thrush 16, Jay, Magpie,Jackdaw 20,CCrow 4, Reed Bunting 2.

Spring Mill Reservoir
GC Grebe,Mallard 4,BH Gull 4,Wood Pigeon 2,Swallow 2, Grey Wagtail 2, Blue tit, Magpie 2, Starling 30, Linnet,Goldfinch 6.

Wallbank Lodge
Tufted Duck,Moorhen 2, various types of Mallards!

Click on this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/26821757@N02/sets/72157607042005360/ for some photos of the twite seen in Whitworth Quarry today.  Of the 2 colour ringed birds, the bird with the yellow/blue/yellow combination has been seen on several occasions throughout the summer.  The bird with the pink rings has not been seen previously.

Hi Jim

You can get within about 20 feet of the twite in Whitworth Quarry sometimes.  When I took these pics I was probably about 30 feet away.  By the way as you can probably tell, this is where we have been putting seed down.
