Bacup - 20 swallows near the cricket club

Waterfoot - 1 swallow with 7 house martins also at least 2 young house martins still in a nest on the Joly Sailor Pub

The following also seen yesterday

Canada goose - 106 at AMR
lapwing - 79 at Cheesden
snipe - 2 on Cowpe Moss & 3 flying west over AMR
skylark - 10 near Cowpe Res & 1 on Cowpe Moss
pied wagtail- 3 Cowpe Res & 2 at AMR
swallow - 7 at Cragg Quarry
stonechat - 3 at Cowpe Res, 4 + 2 on Turf Moor & 5 at Cheesden
chiffchaff - 1 singing near Waterfoot Primary School

Hi Kevin,

Extremely impressed with the photos, especially the second last one, i have been photographing wildlife for a long time and never had an opportunity to catch a jack snipe. I have heard you mention "digiscoping" if you used this method i am even more impressed.

Hi Brian

the first photo was just taken with my camera at 3.5 magnification from about 12 feet away.  The second shot was taken by holding my camera to my binoculars as I hadn't set my scope up at this point.  The other pics were all digiscoped.  I was quite fortunate to find the jack snipe out in the open on the mud.  Prior to this I have only ever seen jack snipes in flight after nearly standing on them.
