got a female blackbird feeding from my yard today.  it is a first.  i know it would  sounds strange to some people but you do not get any thrushes in the terraced housing areas of haslingden especially between the town centre and bury road/mcr rd junction.  is different where there are lawsn, greenery though.  she ate a lot.

as the weather is not forecasted to improve over january and with the chance of getting more than starlings, house sparrows and feral pigeons now what food/ bird feed can attract a good variety.

come to think of it the feral pigeons which were quite common here no longer come to feed.  i think there has been a drop in number?

Hi Sarfraz

Always nice to attract a new species into your patch. The fact that you do not normally get Thrushes in your place suggests that now that you have that indeed they are desperate for food as their normal food supplies will be nigh on impossible to get at due to the snow.

Sultanas is always a favourite here.

Thanks for that tip. I will buy some today. The Blackbirds have been hanging around for the last few days. Quite a few have moved into less green ares. You can hear them calling - will they be calling for food?

I might stop off at Holden Wood Reservoir tomorrow. I will put some bird food out there. Any idea what iwill be a good thing to put out in such a location? It will be frozen over. The waterfowl will have mostly flown off. There will be just Gulls and passerines around.
