08:00 - 15:00,

3 teams each with two people took part and recorded 63 species in total, which is the second highest ever behind 2006 when 64 species were noted. The individual team scores were as follows:

Team A: 40 species.
Team B: 50 Species.
Team C: 56 species.

We had three new species for the Winter Birdrace as follows:

Madarin Duck (Drake) on Wall Bank Lodge,
Skylark near Holden Wood Res,
Snow Bunting (male) on Haslingden Moor.

Other notable sightings included:

Cormorant, several either on or flying up and down The Irwell,
Mute Swan, on Wall Bank Lodge,
Pink Footed Goose, 1 on Cowm Res,
Goosander, many on and up and down The Irwell plus 4 on New Line Res,
Sparrowhawk, female over E.B.S.W.
Peregrine, male dived at something over Groundwork,
Kestrel, just 1 at Edenfield,
Coot, 1 on Wall Bank Lodge,
Lapwing, 2 near Holden Wood Res,
Golden Plover, 1 on Haslingden Moor,
Gulls, all 5 commoner species seen in very good numbers including 4 G.B.B Gulls on the ice at Clowbridge,
Stock Dove, at Warth and Alderbottom,
Kingfisher, at Warth and Lench Lodges amongst others,
G.S.Woodpecker at Lumb Vale amongst others,
Grey Wagtail, just 1 on E.B.S.W.
Dipper, at Warth and Townsendfold amongst others,
Nuthatch, at Strongstry and Irwell Vale in song,
Jay, 1 at Lumb Vale,
Raven, near Clowbridge Res,
Brambling, 2 under feeders at Clowbridge,
Siskin, c10 at Warth,
Redpoll, at Clowbridge,
Bullfinch, 2/3 at Groundwork amongst others,

Notable absences were:

Goldeneye,
Stonechat,
Treecreeper,

All in all a good day!

good to see some one braving the weather. how much of clowbridge is covered with ice ?
