today 2.30pm

most of the res still  frozen but  much of the snow gone.  an absolute transformation has taken place.  the feeder i had put out was still there but if anything had been to eat it did not eat a lot.  at least no one had pinched it.

over 100 black headed including those present and flying over.  they created a bit of a feeding frenzy when i threw some brown bread onto the iced over reservoir.    they attracted over 10 crows and a grey heron which got nothing at all.  it then just waited on the bank at the other side.

3 common gulls passed over and landed at the far side.   1 larger gull soared in the distance - no id could be made.

plenty of smaller birds cheeping, twittering, calling but none i could see or id - i had no  bins.

quite a few wood pigeons and magpies around.    on the way back i noticed a single bird lfying from my feeder -  TRIUMPH!    it looked like a brightly coloured bird like a chaffinch, brambling, nuthatch.

5 blackbirds in the area too.   also a flock of about 10 birds which appeard to be goldfinches by sound.
