12 Collard Dove, less than usual. 4 Blackbird 2 Chaffinch 7 Starling 3 House sparrow 2 Robin 2 Bluetit 1 Great tit 1 Magpie 1 Dunnock 3 Goldfinch 1 Coaltit 2 LTTit 1 Jackdaw 1 Goldcrest, Feeding on peanuts, this was the surprise of the morning, just shows what is there if only we look long enough. Two species I used to see, but missing since the snow - Greenfinch and wren.
Hi Ina It seems a good cross section just like ours. I always think that the birds that are not present are as important as the ones that are counted.
It was a good cross section of birds that I would normally see with a few omissions like Greenfinch, Wren, Mistle Thrush or Long Tailed Tits. It was a very cold morning with -2ēC being recorded at the beginning of the count at 09:40 and the temp only rose to -0.8ēC at it's end at 10:40. Although we have still got a few greenfinches still coming to the feeders, numbers are well down on what they were last year. We also missed out on coal tit and brambling for the first time in 8 years.
