Most nights Starlings are landing in the trees at the bottom of the garden maybe up to 30 minutes before joining the main roost at Leighton.  Sometimes there are up to 2,000.... here's 3 photos.....

also there is still the 2 Cetti's overwintering at Leighton (down on causeway - sometimes around Bearded Tits grit trays or the Public Hide). Usually plenty of Egrets about here and there (sometimes up to 50 at roost (Meir Island-Leighton). Lots of Eidors in the Bay - probably best seen from Near Happy Mount Park, Morecambe prom....  Things just about starting to move a little up here.

Hello Sarfrez,
Hope you are OK and a little bird tells me you had a enjoyable day at Leighton earlier in the week.  The guy at the RSPB you spoke to was Malcolm - my son in laws stepdad - you see I have my spies out everywhere!!!

All the best to all,

Bryan.

When he asked where in Rossendale I lived I was a bit shocked. Then he mentionned he lived there and I did not think it would be you because I do remember what you look like to an extent.

There are plenty of Egret's and it is weird seeing them in Lancashire considering i have seen them in the sweltering heat of South Asia! The only new bird i managed to see was a Bittern. i have seen Marsh Harrier and Bearded Tits before. The Cetti's must have come this week.

I missed the Eiders. What else could have been seen from Happy Mount Park? I did ask a bird watcher about any places where I could see sea birds but was told none could be seen.

I would love to visit it again but it is so far although Im tempted to visit from end of March through April because of the passage migrants it attracts.

Hello Sarfraz,
Sorry for delays in replying.

The Cettis have overwintered at Leighton, having been there since December (if not before) to my knowledge and they are still there (2).

Like you I find it strange to see the Egrets around here, having seen most of mine during my visits to India, where they are so common (all three Egrets), but here they call them Little Egrets, and as I remember in India we called them Cattle Egrets, I wonder if they are the same species (although I would have thought these around here would be of a eurasian origin).

Yes Morecambe Prom across from Happy Mount Park is as good as anywhere.  Here you should see Eiders and other ducks (Pintail, Wigeon etc) as well at this time of year, but will be going back to breeding very soon now.  But also Jenny Browns Point can be good too for wildfowl (Point at Silverdale).  If you want waders again the areas Ive mentioned but also Hesk Bank can be very good (north of Morecambe heading towards Bolton le Sands)....

Good luck and if you wish, let me know when you are coming up.

Bryan.
