75% certain it was a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker

I don't recall ever seeing a LSW  but I am almost sure I saw one yesterday at the fishermans car park at Ogden, it landed in a flowering hawthorn and disappeared completely.
It had the dipping flight pattern of a woodpecker and plenty of white on its back and was the size of a finch. It certainly was not a wagtail so I cannot think what else it could be. Has anyone else seen them on the Grane?

There have been several reports since 2005, most of them at Kings Hillock wood which is pretty well where you saw yours.

I have never heard of Kings Hillock Wood but if that is the conifer plantation on Ogden then that is a result........................a first for me in Rossendale or anywhere else for that matter.
I shall pay more attention in future and confer with the man that sees all.

The man that sees all has confirmed that Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers are in the plantation at Ogden.

I had a lesser spotted woodpecker in one of the trees in front of my house, Haslingden near A56.  Managed to take a rather poor photo before it flew off.  First sighting I have had here in 18 years of being here.
