Holden Wood
Canada Goose, 35, Mallard 38, Grey Heron 1, Black-headed Gull 25, Pied Wagtail 3, Jay - several calling

Calf Hey
Mallard appx 200 (presumably we missed David's Teal among them) all arouund the shore probably feeding on "redshank" seeds. Cormorant 1, Black-headed Gull 10.
Pinkfeet - skeins of c300 and c125 over to NW at 10:20 and 10:25.

Ashworth Moor
Just 5 Goosander - very choppy in strong wind.

Also - 1 dead Kowa TS 601.  Noticed ominous rattling and when home found prism assembly had broken fee and moved down barrel causing chips to objective lens.

Anyone recommend a reasonably priced scope?

Hi Jim

Sorry to hear about the scope it must be an awful feeling. I have witnessed one or two dead scopes in various ways but it's always a heart stopper, we get attached hey!

What is your budget?

Hi Ste

Can't grumble too much. I must have had it over 20 years.

Budget not great - we've spent a lot on the house recently and there's a lot of uncertainty being in local government. Maybe £300 - £400 tops. I don't birdwatch anything like as much as I used to so I don't want to spend a lot on something I user once or twice a month. I might look around for something 2nd hand.

For your budget I would recommend keeping an eye on this as long as you are happy to use Ebay.

Don't laugh but this is a little gem and it has ED glass just buy a eyepiece

These are worth a look and are in clearance section. And as you may know he is a dealer in Rochdale so you can go and try which I would if possible recommend.

The scope seems quite well regarded.
