Evening dash

Really big numbers of hirundines last night. 600+ along with a few Swifts. Best estimates as follows.

300+ House Martins the bulk of them feeding over the railway line

250+ swallows feeding over the coke beds

Mixed in with all these were c40 Swifts with lesser numbers of Sandies.

2 sightings of Kingfisher along river

2 Whitethroats singing at The Holme

4 Sand Martins at river colony

Bob.

15/5/11 - early afternoon

Hi David, just got back from down there. Not sure on totals but close to 1000 birds there. Largest influx of H. Martins and Swifts so far this spring. Pr Oystercatcher flew on .

Walked as far as Strongstry and found 2 G.S.W. nest sites both with young being fed.

Additional Tawny Owl nest with f. sat tight. Plus all the usual species singing in the rain.

Bob & Archie
