Had a few hours spare so went down to Marshside. Only the usual to report. A Great Black-Backed Gull killed a Moorhen.
Wet down to Birkdale to see the Glaucous Gull and after a bit of standing around it put in a appearance. As it came up over the horizon I thought Little Egret but it was bigger. As it came closer it was quite clearly a gull and the one who we had been seeking. It looked at us as it flew around us and then headed North. It flew past us twice over the next 30 minutes.
I was a bit disappointed that it was not landing and allowing us to take photographs from 2 metres away, as it did others. It was not the largest of Glaucous Gulls, only slightly bigger than a Herring Gull but it was my first!
