Hi Cornishrex,

I have had a small party of Redpoll most winter and have been watching there feeding habits and wondered if yours will show the same tendencies.

The group here very rarely feed on there own, they will feed on the ground or a table but will not perch on a hanger, they prefer niger seed then sunflower hearts but leave peanuts alone.

My group of around nine are made up of 3 males and 6 females and the males are getting redder by the day.

Hi The redpolls are normally grouped together, they prefer the Niger seed feeders, but will go on the sunflower heart feeder. I have seen them feeding from seed that has fallen but they usually stay on the feeders. I've noticed that some of them are particularly red. They have only recently come back in the last month, but the goldfinches have been present all winter.
