I went to see Lesser Spotted Woodpecker at Moore NR in mid-Jan but after a few hours we decided that it was late and would not show. Usual birds present incl a Tawny Owl and Goldeneye but the highlight was the number of Song Thrushes.
On the 11th of February went to see Hawfinches at Sizergh but no luck whatsoever. Waited for 3-4 hours then gave up. The feeders are good for bird photoghraphy as they are in a fairly open place.
On the 19th of february I went to Risley Moss to see Woodcock and after much waiting managed to see 3. Managed to Short Eared Owl too.
Today I went to Upper Dean Clough to see the redhead Smew. It was windy, very wet and muddy. Thankfully not a wasted trip too. Two firsts in 3 day span!
Bean Geese, Jack Snipe, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker ...Here I come!
