Last nights flood which affected the houses at the bottom end of the village has also destroyed the small Sand Martin colony, a second brood Grey Wagtail site, several Wren sites and one Spotted Flycatcher nest site. There was one Spotted flycatcher in full song this morning.

Sad when this occurs.

I was amazed to see the amount of water and I was even more surprised when a new record since I started to record weather data (2006) was set with a huge 75mm of rain falling in 24hours. In truth the water table was high already as it was heading to a record wet June before the deluge.

I did remark after seeing all the damaged trees and shrubs that this most definitely will have wiped out a lot of nesting birds.

The amount and size of the rubble pushed down Market St in whitworth is immense.

Very sad for waterside birds when we get such downpours. Were you affected Brian?

Hi Jim,

Our house was ok thanks, but some damage to the area I use for the winter feeding station, but this can be put right, the houses at the bottom of the village had a couple of feet of water on the ground floor.
