  • tufted duck - 1 pr on Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • oystercatcher - 1pr at EBSW
  • coot - 2 on Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • moorhen - 2 on Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • kestrel - 1 at Townsendfold
  • black headed gull - 4 at Holmes Terrace Lodge & c 200 at EBSW
  • common gull - 2 at EBSW
  • lesser black backed gull - c 950 passed eastwards over the Irwell vallet between 10 & 14:30
  • herring gull - c50 passed eastwards over the Irwell vallet between 10 & 14:30
  • great spotted woodpecker - 1 at EBSW
  • skylark - flock of 10 in muckspread field by the river at Townsendfold (first time I've ever seen them here)
  • pied wagtail - 1 at New Hall Hey cricket ground & 30+ at EBSW
  • grey wagtail - 1pr at The Holme
  • meadow pipit - 1 at EBSW
  • wood pigeon - flock of 20 at Holmes Terrace Lodge and 3 at EBSW

the cold weather has attracted 2 redwings and a brambling to our feeding station at Gaghills in Waterfoot.  1 or 2 treecreepers have been coming everyday this year and have taken to using the fat squares we have put out, despite Chris Packham's assertion on winterwatch that treecreepers do not use bird feeders
