Derwent Valley in the Peak District

Day out to the Peak district today.  Visited the Derwent valley with a friend from Manchester.   Over 20 Red Grouse spotted from the road near the high point.  3 Mountain Hare road kills.   I have never seen a l've Mountain Hare yet to to see road kill was not good!   Stopping at a car park before the turn off into the North Derwent Valley we spotted Goosander, Cormorant, a Goshawk and 2 Woodcock!

We then drove to the Fairholmes Caar Park and on the feeders were plenty of Siskin.  I have never seen them on feeders before but once they start feeding they tend to stay a long time before flying off.  They are not skittish like the Chaffinches, Coal Tits, Great Tits and Blue Tits  present.  We then walked to Howden Dam and saw Mallard, Grey Heron and a Buzzard on the way.  Other common birds seen included Song Thrush, Blackbird, Dunnock, Wren, Robin - all singing!   According to my friends smartphone it was minus 3 degrees there and in Manchester 6 degrees!
