Spring Migrants 2013

It has been a very late year for early spring migrants.    In some places early arrivals such as Sand Martins, Little Ringed Plovers, Chiffchaff and Wheatear have arrived a month later than normal.  I managed to see 2 Swallows flying North over Holden Wood yesterday.  I have not see other spring arrivals yet although I did hear a Chiffchaff in Sheffield on Sunday but thats out of Rossendale.  What have others had so far in Rossendale?

Oh yes another out of Rossendale surprise sighting from the x41 going into Manchester on Tuesday was an Osprey on the m60 and m62 junction.

There was nt much at Grane yesterday - I would have expected to see LRP and Wheatear at least. The 2 Swallows made up for it. They just hurtled over and I thought what is that for a second. There appears to have been a bit of a Swallow invasion yesterday in general across the north-west.

Did you go to see the Killdeer Dave?

Yes and we got there in the nick of time! Saw the bird for a good five minutes then it suddenly flew off!

How many people turned up to see it? I was contemplating but I had to attend a wedding in Rotherham. That bird must still be around somewhere. It must have a second somewhere not too far from Alston.
I got another Swallow today over Haslingden flying south though.

About forty people saw the Kildeer. It is probably miles away by now, they haven't ruled out it being the same bird seen in Ireland?? If you have to think about going for a bird you will probably not go! Always drop everything and go!
