I have realised that over the last few months Ihave barelly seen any in Rossendale. Last Wednesday 24 April saw a bird hovering over Grane and it has been the first one in a long time I have seen one whilst driving and i have used that route quite a bit recently. The bird was sighted about 8.40pm.
Today saw a bird on the Rossendale/Holcombe border about 1.15pm. Has any one else noticed less of them around?
I noted this myself and mentioned it on the forum maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I can only imagine it may be to do with the cold winters? Not so much affecting the birds but their prey. I also wonder how the wet weather over the last few years has affecting young survival.

Ste, they have definitely dropped in numbers as most organisations have noted this but driving over Grane Road I more or less always saw them. The weather has nt helped and we cant blame Buzzards as the latter do not frequent Grane as much.
David - would you have got pairs in other areas of Whitworth though?
Pete - they are an easy bird to miss as we took them for granted. Same as the Sparrow and Starling sadly.
