it was a glorious sunny day for most of our 2013 Summer Bird Race.
Six birders participated in 3 teams of two and a grand total of 80 different species were seen which is a new record for a Summer Bird Race. Since the Summer Bird Race started in 1992 we have now seen a total of 106 different species with this year's "new" species being Ruddy Duck!

Team C. (IB & RI) 66 species.
The birding highlights today were as follows:
Mute Swan,
Dabchick, adult feeding two chicks,
Sparrowhawk,
Buzzard, several soaring the thermals,
Kestrel, several seen today,
Oystercatcher, pair with 3 chicks,
L.R.Plover, good numbers present,
Snipe, only 1 seen and that was at HWRes,
G.B.B.Gull, immature with L.B.B.Gulls,
Little Owl, Grane,
Kingfisher, pair plus juv(s)
Raven, 4 & 2, some "prucking"!
Whitethroat, 2,
Garden Warbler, 1 seen singing at Alderbottom,
Treecreeper,
Nuthatch,
Spotted Flycatcher, several especially Alderbottom.
