Only myself and Russell (aka Craggy) attended and we decided to walk from Rawtenstall towards Ewood Bridge.  Species of note were

  • little grebe - 1pr on Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • mallard - 22 on Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • kestrel - 1 hunting over Horncliffe Tip and 2 seen flying over Townsendfold towards Road End
  • lesser black backed gull - c200 over
  • kingfisher - 1 flew from a tree at the side of the train tracks near the entrance to K Steels and flew towards Clowes Lodges
  • swift - 1 tried over 20 times to land on the chimney at Hardman Mill to roost, eventually it appeared to succeed
  • woodpigeon - flock of c20 at Holmes Terrace Lodge
  • dipper - 1 at The Holme

also 1 or 2 curlew heard over Gaghills at 21:47 hrs

 cheers Kevin
