A Yellow Browed Warbler was/is present on the "tip" off Goodshaw Lane at c11am today.
1st found in bushes at the back of 18 G/shaw Lane, seen and heard by 3 people, the bird flew around and onto the "tip" to the East of G/shaw Lane. It was heard to call a couple more times. A tape lure was played for a lengthy period but no further sighting was had. It was in with a mobile tit flock.
Good find...and surely must be a first for Rossendale!
Feed the tits and you don't know what might turn up on or around your feeders!
What would a YBW sound like at this time of year? They say they sound very distinct. I heard a different bird sound yesterday in Haslingden and kept searching for it. It turned out to be a Great Tit.
I know. I felt I wasted my time! I saw you driving on the way back and I did wave at you just when the m62 started more or less and I might have indicated at you. Did you see me?
Not sure if it is a 1st, Jim will probably know about that.
I would have expected to have found one in a net whilst ringing rather than my Dad/Me hearing it whilst hanging washing out on back street!!
No doubt there are many more to be found out there as there has been many 100`s of them all the way up the East coast and now further West.
Incidentally, Rob and I were at Spurn on Sunday and didn`t see one even though there was a dozen or so there..
Bush searching was no good but seawatching was really good with 100`s of seabirds moving past. Sooty Shearwater, Little Gulls, Divers, Gannets, sea ducks etc.
Yes, I suspect it is a Rossendale first. I've nothing in my database which goes back 10 years and there's nothing in Eric Ward's booklet - Rossendale Birds. Well done Craig.
Craig. I had a little time near the sea watching hide and I was lucky enough to be near a guy that was happy to pass on a few tips. Which I am always happy to take on. Enjoyed the Beacon Wetlands.
Will be at Spurn again this Sunday and Monday.

Thats a nice find Craig. One has been on the Heysham reserve and another one found this morning near the Church at Heysham Head.
To be honest with you I have been too busy counting Chaffs to bother going to check it out although they were just 2-3 hundred yards away from where I was counting. After four years I have still not been down to Leighton to check out the Cettis.... I am like you Craig, I want them on my patch! Although lots of others have been down try to find them. They have been totally avoiding any "playback" whatsoever! put the tape on and that seems to be the last you see of them.
Turning Westerley tonight (hip hip horray!) at long last we might now just get a bit of movement over the weekend.
Talking earlier to a ringer from Newcastle (who was over at Heysham) and he says the Redwing are piling in now! but he's piling in and my piling in maybe two different things altogether! tha nuz what a mean.......
Catch up soon Craig, phone on earlys and I will do the same.
yes that was me..... I saw you driving down the point and your car parked up on Sunday afternoon 1 ish.......we walked to the tip. If I go next time I will stay the night.
