Blue Tit  good numbers singing and nesting.

Great Tit as above.

Coal Tit have had a good winter lots singing, one pair in a nest box.

Long-tailed Tit five nest sites (two thanks to NB) active.

Chaffinch good numbers singing.

Bullfinch again doing well several pairs nesting.

Goldfinch only two pair seen both at Ewood.

Treecreeper doing well at least five nest sites.

Nuthatch still good numbers active nesting one pair in box.

Dunnock two or three pair only.

Wren had a good winter many singing.

Robin excellent numbers at least 14 pair.

Blackbird many pairs nesting.

Mistle Thrush just two pair seen.

Song Thrush three individual and two pair seen one in full song.

Great Spotted Woodpecker more than usual several nest sites in use.

Green Woodpecker pair in Irwell Vale at old nest site, possible second pair in Chatterton woods.

Chiffchaff  three in weak song at EB and Alderbottom.

Reed Bunting a male and female on high ground above Alderbottom, this is a first for me here.

Jay several pairs and groups.

Magpie at least three pair, one nest above my house.

Jackdaw everywhere lots of nesting activity.

Carrion Crow several in fields.

Rook  large rookery in Shuttleworth twenty plus nests.

Dipper three pair with nests at usual sites.

Grey Wagtail none seen today, but there was a pair at Strongstry yesterday.

Pied Wagtail one pair on river at Irwell Vale.

House Sparrow numbers down some nesting in Irwell Vale.

Kingfisher two separate individuals seen both male.

Goosander five pair.

Mallard several pair two females sitting on eggs.

Canada Goose two pair.

Moorhen one pair.

Sparrowhawk there has been a female hanging round since early march, not seen today.

Woodpigeon too many !

Noteable absentees. 

Greenfinch, Goldcrest, Grey Heron, Collared Dove.

Love the nest nice report, are the nest sites up this year after the mild winter ?

Hi Craggy,

There are some reports that Long-tailed Tit numbers are down, but here in the valley where there is plenty of Bramble and Lichen they seem to be similar numbers to previous years.
