On Tuesday afternoon the sitting Spotted Flycatcher was being fed on the nest by its mate in the sunshine, during that evening I was joined by Dave O in torrential rain and thunder, we could just make out the sitting bird in the gloom.
On Wednesday morning and afternoon I checked the area and could not locate either bird, this morning I checked the nest site through my scope and as feared the nest has gone, presumably washed out by the rain.
I have searched the woods all morning and have found both birds, they are very mobile and not feeding in one area, we can only hope that they have time to set up a second nest site and raise a brood.
While out this morning a few things of note were seen,
Two Buzzards in Chatterton wood apparently predating Wood Pigeon nests, one buzzard had most of its central tail feathers missing.
Several family parties of Long-tailed Tits and Blackcap.
Dave O was looking for Treecreeper in the rain on Tuesday with no luck, they are here Dave, pair feeding in Lumb vale.
Young Kingfishers, Dippers, and Grey wagtail on the river
