The local house sparrow population around Gaghills seems to have prospered this year. Recently I counted a flock of 32, which is 12 up on any other count I can remember. I suspect this is partly down to a reasonable summer allowing the adults to forage longer for food and also because there are weedy areas near the colony that have been cut in the past, but were left alone for much of the summer
