Osprey - Holden Wood! Grane area
Permalink

was at Grane from 8am-1pm

Osprey in Cormorant roost on way back about 12.45   ........ could hae taken a good shot but battery was dead  .......lucky i had my  video on mobile hone or distance footage.....at first it did not fly but then it did slowwly got to the dam , greeted by local corvids en masse,  then headed up the res.......moving slowly......did not really check to see if anything was in roost at beginning of visit..........it looked leisurely...appeared to  head towards Ogden.......loooks like a very  strong candidate for a stayer...looks like a juv...if not at holden wood then might be at ogden calf hey.......

Also

1000 plus meadow pipits

4 min Tree Pipits.......how do i know they were Tripits?  Their call!

8 Whinchat!   - 1 at holden wood at top end,  2 in ferns between  holden wood and  ogden,  5  in new plantation area of musbury

did not  get a wryneck, red-backed shrike, barred warbler, pallas's grasshopper warbler ....but not at all disappointed with the day.

forgot to add about 60 swallows yesterday morning on the wire with many juv's not many seen later..i think they departed .....from Friday, 3 linnet, 1 juv goldfinch in musbury

went for a quick look today and on claf hey 6.30 - 7 nothing but meadow pipits, some ducks, no chats.....2 green woodpecker, 1 gs woodpecker

lots of b h gulls heading north

on holden wood.....around 20 meadow pipits, 8 pied wagtails heading south, approx. 15 cormorants to roost stayed till about 7.40pm ,,,,,approx. 20 mallards, 1 grey heron , a few linnet over, 4 kestrels ...2-3 were juv's
also a bird flew north ..shaped like a possible g s woodpecker but lacked the bill in flight...

2 chiff/willow warblers near dam wall

1 common sandpiper
