8am - 11.30am

Holden Wood : - 6 cormorants in trees, 5 teal, 1 grey heron, 7-8 mallard, 1 kestrel, 80 plus woodpigeons moving west-north west, 1 common gull, chiffchaff with tits in ferns between Ogden and Holden wood, 

Usual suspects 

 

Ogden:-  6 cormorants. 50 lapwings, 5-6 mallard

 

Calf Hey:-

1 g c grebe

3 herring gull immatures

10 min mallard

Forest alive with small birds easily 30 Goldcrest's seen today if not even a 100 with 3 commonest tit species.  1 green woodpecker, 1 g s woodpecker

1 jay

 

Ogden:-

1 g b b gull

 

Holden Wood:-

Met Paul and Jim and had had a good chat with great bird entertainment.  3 buzzard's in air together - 1 shot across to Musbury side but there were 3 again likely a 4th appeared, 

6 Fieldfare

1 kestrel

1 hobby most likely a juv

3 buzzard's joined by entourage of Corvids including 2 Ravens.

Literally minutes after you left, we witnessed a kestrel carrying prey that climbed in the sky and let go of what it was carrying 3 times and then swooped to catch it mid-air again. I've never witnessed this behaviour before. It only stopped because it got mobbed by the crows and magpies that had been hassling the buzzards.
