Was passing by the area on Thursday so made a brief visit.  Lots of snow still lying around, would have looked a real winter wonderland last week.  A couple of reservoirs, woods ands brilliant moorland are the main habitat.  The landscape is very dramatic and probably second only to the Lakes in the North West of England.  A good spot for birds of prey -  I recorded Goshawk there in August 2013 and in late October 3 Rough Legged Buzzards were present for a few days.  I did go in October a couple of times as I was working around there but sadly I could not add Rough Legged Buzzard to my list.  I missed one by two minutes.  Had I not got fidgety and decided to stay put I would have  seen one.

Anyway on Thursday managed to see Raven, Buzzard, Peregrine - the latter which flushed a Woodcock.  I have never seen a Woodcock in flight before and they do look strange flying.  Plenty of Red Grouse too.
