I put the feeders back out a couple of weeks ago. As usual finches are more prominent than other species here, but so far greenfinch numbers appear greatly reduced. The following have been seen so far, in the limited time I've been able to watch.
great spotted woodpecker - 1 male robin - 2 dunnock - 1 wren - 1 blue tit - 2 great tit - 2 coal tit - 2 house sparrow - 4 chaffinch - 10 brambling - 1 male present this morning goldfinch - 26 greenfinch - 3
male sparrowhawk made a half hearted attack on the finches today min 4 bramblings (3 male & 1 female) now coming to feeders greenfinches now increased to 7
Unlike Brian's feeders things are much the same here. The only additions to previous posts being the following
wood pigeon - occasional visit from 1 bird collared dove - 1 pair make occasional visits goldcrest - 1 seen earlier this month jay - 1 on 10th November blackbird - 4 birds regularly wait to be fed in the morning great spotted woodpecker - female visiting regularly but the male has disappeared bullfinch - 1 male on 13th November house sparrow - 20 present yesterday brambling - only 1 bird seen in last couple of days, thought to be a young female other finches still much the same, although chaffinches have probably increased sparrowhawk - at least 2 different birds have visited (see photos, taken through double glazed window). Neither has made a kill yet
I tried the same this afternoon but my double glazing is no where near as good as yours, excellent pictures. When I came back from dog walking duties it was dark but dry and I could hear the Redwings above the feeding station, I have put extra apple and sultanas out to see if they come down in the morning.
Horrible weather today, several trees are down, one big white poplar blocking the cycle track, no sign of Redwing only thing of note was the number of Chaffinch (mostly males) difficult to count as there is a lot of coming and going but we're certainly more than 30.
A nice start to 2016 at our feeders as a male siskin was present this morning along with a female brambling. A skein of c78 pink footed geese flew west at 9:25
As I filled the feeders this morning a male sparrowhawk darted past and landed about 6ft away from me, before realising I was there and making a swift exit
Yesterday a male and a female siskin were present. A chaffinch and a blackbird were both singing
Finch numbers have dropped off in the last couple of weeks. Only 3 - 5 greenfinch & a similar number of goldfinch coming at any one time and visits are far less frequent. C10 chaffinch come but far less frequently. I assume that this is either because other people are putting food out locally or because of the mild weather, as I have seen no sign of disease in the limited time I have to watch. Up to c20 house sparrows were coming regularly but these are using feeders closer to their breeding sites and rarely make it our way now. Other bird species are still visiting in similar numbers.
Of note recently
3m & 2f siskin came this morning
1pr long tailed tit rather than a large family group visiting every day & this pair is sometimes present all day long
a goldcrest has been present everyday since the new year
blackbird numbers remain reasonably high for us, with up to 8 present at a time
Finch numbers have increased again this week. I haven't had much time to watch, but I am having to fill the feeders more often. At least 10 goldfinch present this morning, the first double figure count I've had for a while. Maxine reported a brambling and a pair of bullfinch yesterday. Up to 7 siskins still visit daily. A male sparrowhawk was present this afternoon and maybe this is one of the reasons finch numbers dropped
