Canada goose - 5 at Holden Wood wigeon - 1 male on Holden Wood teal - 10 on Holden Wood & 8 on the bank at Calf Hey mallard - 28 on Holden Wood & 7 on Ogden red legged partridge - 2 at Ogden cormorant - 23 were in the trees at Holden Wood at 15:10 with another bird flying in from Haslingden grey heron - 3 at Holden Wood buzzard - several sightings at Holden Wood, Ogden, Haslingden Moor, Thirteen Stone Hill & Hutch Bank involved a minimum of 3 birds peregrine - 1 near Holden Wood golden plover - c24 on Haslingden Moor snipe - 1 on Haslingden Moor black headed gull - c125 at Holden Wood at 10:00 common gull - 2 at Holden Wood at 10:00 lesser black backed gull - c14 passed over Haslingden Moor in a mixed flock @passed over Haslingden Moor in a mixed flock 14:20 herring gull - c 4 passed over Haslingden Moor in a mixed flock @ 14:20 great black backed gull - 2 passed over Haslingden Moor in a mixed flock @ 14:20 From 15:10 to 15:30 c500 gulls passed over Grane heading roughly west. Due to the poor light it was hard to make out what most of them were, but the first c25 in a small flock were black headed, then there was a constant passage of mostly larger gulls starting with c40 common gulls and then mostly a mixture of lesser black backs, herring and greater black backs, although I have no idea of numbers of each wood pigeon - just - 1 at Holden Wood & 1 at Calf Hey magpie - c16 jackdaw - c20 at Holden Wood @ 10:00 and c80 over Holden Vale at 15:30 carrion crow - c20 raven - 1 near Holden Wood goldcrest - min 8 in mixed flock at Calf Hey blue tit - c6 great tit - c6 coal tit - min 8 in mixed flock at Calf Hey long tailed tit - min 8 in mixed flock at King's Hillock Wood wren - c4 dipper - 2 at Holden Wood & 2 at Ogden, probably the same birds blackbird - 6 song thrush - 1 at Heap Clough robin - c5 dunnock - 4 grey wagtail - 1 at Holden Wood, 2 at Ogden & 1 at Calf Hey meadow pipit - 10 at Holden Wood, 1 at Ogden & 10 on Haslingden Moor chaffinch - just 1 goldfinch - 18 at Holden Wood siskin - calling birds at Holden Wood reed bunting - 1 near Jamestones Quarry
