G.C.Grebe, singles on Holden Wood & Calf Hey,

Cormorant, 4 on Holden Wood & 2 on Ogden,

Canada Goose, c40, mainly in pairs or small groups,

Teal, pair on Holden Wood,

Mallard, c12, mainly males,

Goldeneye, male on Holden Wood & 2 females in Jamestone,

Marsh Harrier, cream headed bird was being mobbed by Lapwings, B.H.Gulls & Crows when I arrived at Holden Wood at 08:50, it headed east up the valley followed by 2 crows and into the low cloud / mist. It returned back down the valley ten minutes later pursued by 3 B.H.Gulls & an Oystercatcher and then turned south over Hill End Farm.

Buzzard, 2 pairs circling at the same time,

Sparrowhawk, female soaring over the valley,

Pheasant, 2 calling birds,

Moorhen, single on Holden Wood & pair in Troy,

Coot, 4 on Holden Wood,

Lapwing, c10 at Holden Wood,

L.R.P. group of 3,

Oystercatcher, up to 7 birds seen but probably some duplication,

Curlew, calling pair from the moors,

B.H.Gull, c20,

L.B.B.Gull, c20,

G.B.B.Gull, 2 on Ogden,

Wood Pigeon, c20 in flocks to 6,

Stock Dove, c8 in flocks to 3,

Skylark, 2 singing on the tops,

Sand Martin, 2 over Jamestones,

Meadow Pipit, c30, many in display,

Pied Wagtail, 4 at Calf Hey,

Grey Wagtail, 1 in Heap Clough,

Stonechat, male near Calf Hey,

Song Thrush, c4 singing birds,

Mistle Thrush, 1 at Holden Wood,

Goldcrest, c4 singing birds in Clough Head Clough & c4 singing birds near Jamestones,

Coal Tit, c6 singing birds,

L.T.Tit, 2 pair,

Nuthatch, 2 birds, with 1 singing, at Calf Hey,

Jay, 2 calling birds,

Chaffinch, c8 with several singing,

Goldfinch, 2,

Siskin, pair down the valley & several singles over calling,

Linnet, male near Deep Clough,

Bullfinch, calling birds near Troy,

Reed Bunting, singing bird at Holden Wood was the only one of the day.

I had a female Marsh Harrier flying east on 14th April last year at the same location.
