2 good trips to North Wales over Christmas and the New Year. 1st on 27th Dec for the Black-throated Thrush and Waxwings at St Asaph and again on the 2nd Jan `17 for the showy Snow Buntings at Deganwy, Rhos for Purple Sandpipiers and another go for some better pics the B T Thrush.
After finding the BT Thrush at c9am after only being on site c30 mins, a numpty came plodding along flushing everything in the area then asking what we "were" looking at.. the bird didnt show again until c2.30pm in its favoured trees by the pub. It was showing for about a minute and whilst trying to get a pic 4 older gents who were stood with me couldnt get on the bird even though it was showing well in an open ash tree 40 yrds away i had to try and point the bird out and only managed a few pics before it flew away and landed in a subble field 50 yds further away.. Spent next 2 hrs looking for it again but no luck.
Black-throated Thrush.. St Asaph, 27th Dec `16.
Went again on 2nd Jan to look at the Snow Buntings, and other birds in the area (Scoters, Divers etc) then on to Rhos but only 1 distant Purple Sand the back to St Asaph for the B T Trush, which turned out to have not been seen since dusk on New Years Eve. Apparently the report on Birdguides for 1st Jan was not confirmed.. Had to feel sorry for a chap who had turned up from South London on N Y Eve, slept in his car 2 nights and was still there at 4pm as the light faded on the 2nd having searched for 2 days.!!
