For anyone interested in seeing a rare Adult Male Pallid Harrier head up the Dunsop Valley in Bowland and take the Whitendale (right hand) branch road at the top end until you reach the cattle grid and look over to the adjacent right hand heather moor and you will see this beautiful bird quartering the moor and doing its sky dance display at great height. Stunner. Views are quite distant but as good as your likely to get of this species in the U.K.

Parking is in Dunsop Bridge car park and walk up Valley on foot. NO vehicles allowed up the Valley road. 8km round trip but most is on flat tarmac road...

Also in the area is an imm/sub adult White-tailed Eagle as back up!!

Pics on my Flickr pages, Link below...

I have never seen a Pallid Harrier, neither in the UK or abroad, but I hope it moves on quickly before it gets shot like every other Bird of Prey that is foolish enough to wander there

Sarfraz has had a couple of stunning pictures of the bird published on Birdguides.

The RSPB have published a map to the best viewing site on their Skydancer website. It's going to be a tad busy up there until it moves on!

Hi Craig

Went to see the Pallid Harrier today got some fantastic views, it came in like a rocket then started its sky dancing display

right in front of us, then it settled on a dry stone wall for about five minutes

Then began flying slowly low over the heather doing mini divin, then slowly went higher and drifted out of sight

Best thing I've seen for a while well worth the track up

Cheers Craggy

A superb bid to see.  I cannot believe that people were watching a adult male Pallid Harrier than a White Tailed Eagle appeared into the view!  Two county raptor ticks for some lucky Lancashire Birders.  Cuckoo on the way up was  the first of the year for me.

Nice Tulips Craggy - I saw them in May 2013 first time and then Friday.  I will add old photo of it  first.

Thought I'd have a trek up to whitendale farm to see the pallid harrier and the bird didn't disappoint some spectacular sky dancing and plenty of nest building activity.hope the game keepers leave it alone and see what prevails but it's a big ask

Been up twice for this bird and it has never let me down. Quite spectacular to watch it "skydiving". Might just go again?
