Above Woodcroft, Crown Farm and Greenfold.. 8th April '18.

Only 2 Curlew seen, no Lapwing or Snipe seem to be breeding on fields that used to have decent numbers on them years ago. Loads of corvids on the other fields which have been muck spread on.

Unusually large number of Ravens up there. A MINIMUM of 15 were soaring around together, croaking, tumbling and displaying and others were down on the ground feeding and I have no idea how many there was in total. Every time I checked a flying bigger corvid it was a Raven. Never seen so many anywhere.

Full circular scan of the sky from Crown Farm taking in Rawtenstall, Cribden, Goodshaw, Greenfold, Water and Lumb had 9 Buzzard in the sky at the same time aswell as 2 on a wall/ground to the side of me chasing Voles in the grass.. Nice to see these are doing well now.

My 1st Swallow of the year flew north over the moor, 2 Little Owls on a dry stone wall, 8+ Skylarks singing but a distinct lack of Meadow Pipits over the whole area. Usually lots up there.

Zillions of big gulls heading north and south all afternoon.

Also had what I thought could have been an Osprey circling Clough Botton res and then drifted off over towards Burnley around 4.30pm but a bit to distant to be 100% o ID.

Buzzards chasing voles..
