Wood Warbler was singing near Alderbottom viaduct yesterday evening and quite visible, went this morning 0700 hrs in sunshine but only 6 degrees, could not hear or see bird.
In past years they have always moved down into Lumb Vale which is now in private hands, so after a little bit of trespassing I relocated the bird on the banks of the Irwell at the bottom of Lumb wood. It was not in full song but actively feeding in cover, watch for Twenty mins and photographed.
Rather than retresspass I went up Lumb wood to the top and sitting on a fence was a female Pied Flycatcher, no time for photo as it flew into the woods, probably a passage bird but very good to see in Rossendale, will keep an eye on the site.
