Compstons Cross 07.00 - 08.15 S2 increasing 3-4, mostly misty so totals will be underestimates. All heading more or less south

Meadow pipit (140) with a few more flying over on the walk from Meadow Head, swallow (30), chaffinch (51), redpoll (9),  goldfinch (1), pied wagtail (6), starling (2), rook (1), mistle thrush (1) the only thrush. A few (>5) reed buntings, chiffchaff, great spotted woodpecker, and raven (2) around.

Clowbridge Res around 9.00 

Great crested grebe (1), cormorant (2), goosander (4 south), lesser black-backed gull (2), common gull (3), black-headed gull (10). 80 goldfinches in the south-east corner and fair numbers of chaffinch and goldfinch around the car park.

On the way up a probable short-eared owl near Meadow Head - fairly fleeting view in the half-light and lost in the murk so couldn't be 100% sure.

Return via Meadow Head/Greenfold/Bonfire Hill - 4 skylarks Meadow Head and 2 Bonfire Hill, 3 snipe nr Greenfold and the back end of a redstart sp along Bottomley Bank Lane - assume a common redstart

In Rawtenstall a peregrine on Hardman's chimney - both male and female have been here off and on for the last week or so

Other odds'n'sods this week

16 Sep - 1 merlin south along Moorbottom Road nr Bull Hill afternoon

14 Sep - 70 meadow pipits cribden flats plus around 20 over south. 80 pied wagtails in one flock heading towards Haslingden from EBSW evening

13 Sep - 2 poss 3 wheatears, c25 meadow pipits, 3 skylarks over Cribden Flats
