After Several days of snow and freezing conditions today was damp and 8 degrees.
The large numbers of finches at the feeding station have reduced to five or six of each, but Blackbird numbers are in the high twenties, and five Song Thrush were nice to see, the highlight has been a Green Woodpecker which has come down for fat with mealworms on a couple of occasions and has has been calling all day, this is only the second record for this species at the feeding station.
I have had three Woodcock sightings in Buckden wood yesterday and today, two Buzzards have been soaring over Alderbottom most of today, and a pair of Grey Herons have been carrying sticks into Chatterton wood.
With the thaw the river is up and coloured and attracted three pair of Goosander and a Cormorant, the Dippers are active and one Grey Wagtail was showing well.
A single Kingfisher was fishing on Porritt lodge where the ice had melted.
