The sand martin colony appears to be completely deserted, with only two birds seen over the river. 3 weeks ago there were around 15 pairs here.
On a brighter note common sandpipers have bred by the river - adult and small young seen yesterday and today (at least 3 young). Is this the first time they have bred along the Irwell?
