0730/1100 hrs overcast,calm 14 degrees.

As you would expect good numbers of Blackbird, all usual Tits, Robin and Wren and Wood Pigeon.

Of note.....

Jackdaw....300 plus over and feeding in fields.

Rook...7 in cut field in Chatterton including three juveniles, a rare sight here, assume they have come down from Shuttleworth.

Carrion Crow....30+ around.

Jay...7 mainly along cycle track.

Grey Heron....2, one Alderbottom another in Irwell vale.

Great Spotted Woodpecker.....6, they have bred well in Strongstry woods, several with two broods.

Nuthatch....8, another good year.

Goldfinch.....small charms all round.

Chaffinch.....12, again gaining in numbers.

Dunnock.....1, struggled to find that one.

Song Thrush.....5, around the woodland floor.

Collared Dove.....6 around Irwell vale.

Bullfinch....three nest sites have all fledged young, good sites are Porritt lodge, East view and Alderbottom.

Greenfinch.....a success story for my patch, several over wintered around East view lodge and stayed and breed, at least two nest sites with six seen this morning.

East view has become a bit of a hot spot, last year a pair of Reed Bunting nested, never saw young, this year they have fledged at least four, another first for here, four seen this morning.

Also at above site....3 Willow Warblers, 2 Chiffchaff, young Moorhen, Young Buzzard and Green Woodpecker.

Whitethroat...single at Ewood Bridge.

Willow Warbler....2, Irwell vale, 1 Ewood Bridge.

Lesser Redpoll....3, Irwell Vale, and a single at Alderbottom, i have seen a pair several times recently in the same area.

Dipper......2 Ewood Bridge, 1 Stubbins, 1 Strongstry.

Grey Wagtail.....1 Alderbottom.

Pied Wagtail.....three Ewood Bridge.

Kingfisher.....only one this morning, probably as river is coloured, but they have had a good year with at least one site producing two broods.

Swallow.....25 low over the valley.

House Marin....20+ mainly around Edenfield where they have bred well.

Swift....none seen this morning, but Four over the river yesterday evening in Strongstry.

Sand Martin....14 hawking over the river in Strongstry this morning, max of 12 nests on the river this year with 3/4 having second broods.

Buzzard......one more over Irwell vale.

Moorhen....including the ones at East view, a pair with two young at Irwell vale.

Regards Brian.
