Lapland Bunting (?) Thirteen Stone Hill
Permalink

Flight views only of a bird NW then W on Thirteen Stone Hill yesterday afternoon. Somewhat reed bunting-like piu/tseu followed by a short harsh(ish) trill which it repeated heading over the moor. No obvious markings. Not a great view but I'm pretty sure I would have noticed any white on the wings. Listening to recordings later it seemed a fairly good lapland bunting but as it's probably 20 years since I last heard/saw one in the flesh.....

A few other bits'n'bobs yesterday

Buckden Wood - chaffinch flock of at least 100 birds top end (thought I heard a brambling but unable to locate)

Bull Hill - 3 red grouse and 1 snipe

Alden/Musbury - 5 bullfinches at the very top of Musbury then in the bilberry. 2 stonechats Alden and around 8 meadow pipits (none on the high ground)

Haslingden/Oswaldtwistle Moor - 11 golden plovers and 17 snipe in various small groups

Andy
